we present our debut album - songs about people we know

"Listening to the first two songs on their debut album Songs About People We Know made us immediately curious: here were strong and empowered songs with smart lyrics, great arrangements and playing (Kyla Dyresen's piano) and the full-throated soul-blues voice of Wilkie." - Graham Reid, elsewhere.co.nz

“Musically, the album revels in Meredith and Kyla’s wide breadth of inspiration - from the deep soul-rock of opener Flint and Steel to the more contemporary Kiwi RnB sound (and a stunningly wigged out guitar solo crescendo) on closer You Must Stay, there are plenty of genre-departures into the worlds of psychedelia and soul, and quite wonderfully on Scaredy Cat, a kind of cabaret jazz that sits somewhere between Nina Simone and Cab Calloway.”

- James Belfield, music critic for stuff.co.nz, The Listener and the Waiheke Gulf News.

Kia Ora and welcome!

The Rocky Bay Midnights are a group of musicians from Waiheke Island who love to make music with soul.

An all-original soul / rock / jazz / psychedelic extravaganza, the music they create is inspired by many sources.

Their originals have a focus on a love of melody, soundscape and feeling, and they love connecting with their audience.

The RBMs have just released their debut album!

The Rocky Bay Midnights are: Kyla Dyresen, Meredith Wilkie, Simon McDowell, Dione Denize and Julion Wright.
